I’ve been blogging for about 2 years now(on and off) and the urge to buy fake followers is REAL. Let me make one thing clear, I don’t judge people who buy followers on social media but I think it’s my responsibility to talk about this widely debated topic and share my story with you guys.
In a world full of brands that are now majorly looking to work with bloggers and social media influencers, there is nothing but pressure on people like me to also get on the number game and make big bucks. I’ll be lying if I say that the thought has never crossed my mind. It definitely has and honestly, more than once.
“Why would someone buy fake followers and how do you that?” This question has haunted me from the past year and I now have a simple answer for it. You buy fake followers to earn money. The bigger the number, the more campaigns you get and hence the more money you make. As for the how part of it, there are n number of websites and people who you pay a little bit of money and voila!
All of this sounds amazing at first at first but when you actually get into it, things begin to change. You may get x number of followers overnight but then they’re all fake, right? You know this and trust me, people around you do too. I saw someone’s profile go from 60k to 90k in a week and that was just hilarious! I’ll tell you why. I have been making videos for Popxo for a year and a half now and the amount of reach I get is in millions. Even then, I’m at 61k followers and it’s taking its own time to grow(how it should be unless you’re a celebrity) and then when I look at a profile like the one I just mentioned, it’s nothing but hilarious.
“ But you still got the number, right? And money too!” Well, yes you do but your impressions and engagement wouldn’t change. So the next time a brand gives you a campaign based on your follower count and then they ask for your reach and impressions, there’s a full chance of you being embarrassed. Apart from that, the brand might never reach you again(if they care enough). I started my blog because I wanted to extend help and share what has worked for me with an audience that trusts me and looks up to me in a certain way. For me, it’s my duty to be loyal to them and to myself and this is what I see myself doing for the rest of my life.
Buying fake followers is cheating myself, my work ethics, and everything else that I stand for. Yes, there are days when I feel frustrated (and angry even) but I remind myself of the many reasons I started doing what I do and the constant love from you guys makes me proud of whatever (big or little) I’ve accomplished and that is enough. <3
Another important thing is to still want to grow and I do. Who doesn’t? There are so many organic ways of promoting and growing your social media presence. Every aspect of it takes work and time and that’s what I’ve been doing and that’s what I intend to do. Why don’t you check out my Instagram profile and let me know if I’m on the right track? 😛
Google has been my best friend throughout these years. There is so much to learn and so many things you can use to accelerate growth. Go make the most of it!
Lots of love,
